Telecoms Technician

Our client, a leading Construction and Infrastructure Services business working in the Rail sector, has a fantastic opportunity for a Telecoms Lead Technician to join the business.  Our client has won a number of extra projects and is looking for an experienced Telecoms Lead Technician to hit the ground running and join the existing team.  You will be required to respond to, attend site and rectify faults in a timely manner to minimise train delays, safety risks, and failures that inconvenience clients or travelling public.

Key tasks:

Faults

  • Respond to faults in a timely manner, deploying appropriate resources from the fault team in a prioritised way.
  • Diagnose and repair faults to restore equipment to service as soon as possible.
  • If repair is not possible you will be required to liaise with customers to ensure that a way forward is agreed that is accepted by all relevant parties.
  • Accurately record details of faults on the client’s system
  • Where the fault is a safety or train delay fault, liaise with a senior manager (the on-call manager out of hours) to ensure the necessary support.

Routine Maintenance

  • Carry out routine Maintenance as per the programme.
  • Record what Maintenance has been completed on the forms provided.
  • Identify assets that you are unable to maintain for whatever reason.
  • Assist the Site Engineer in creating a shift report for each shift identifying what activity was carried out.
  • Record all asset maintenance and inspection.

Experience and skills required

  • The ability to work safely in accordance with National Rail and client instructions and procedures.
  • The ability to identify any improvements to help reduce costs, increase value, or improve customer satisfaction
  • BTEC ONC- HNC-HND in electronics and telecoms
  • PABX, Telephony
  • Public address systems
  • Understand principles and maintenance of CCTV
  • CCTV NVR, DVR over network
  • Basic Computer skills
  • GSMR/DMR radio
  • SDH Transmission, Fibre optic
  • OSI 7 layer model
  • Basic TCP/IP
  • Commend help points
  • Tunnel telephone systems
  • Vids platform information screens
  • UPS backup arrangements
  • Preferably inducted on railway Sentinal, PTS, COSS etc.
  • CER awareness understanding of safety critical equipment
  • Basic first aid.
